Selecting Wedding Bands Is a Crucial Part of Wedding Planning

Deciding on wedding bands takes a lot of time and hard work. The wedding band symbolizes the love, strength, and unity of your marriage. Each partner’s wedding band should encapsulate those characteristics while also reflecting the individual’s personal style. These rings are an expression of eternal and lasting love. Since they are made to last equally as long, they should embody the design that you feel most depicts your love, life, and character.

A wedding band is the one piece of jewelry that will be worn for a lifetime. Unlike necklaces, bracelets, or other fashion jewelry, wedding bands are never taken off. The rare exceptions include doing chores that involve harsh chemicals or occupations that do not permit jewelry. Because this jewelry is something that you will wear everyday, it is important that you choose a design that compliments your tastes. Whether you are a very austere individual or extremely ornate, your wedding band should radiate with your personality.

Before choosing wedding bands, there are some things that you and your mate must consider. First and foremost, do not wait until the last minute to decide to shop for wedding bands. You may choose a custom design or you may choose something that your jeweler does not keep in inventory. It could take up to eight weeks for your wedding bands to be ready. With this in mind, you should have selected a ring by absolutely no later than eight weeks before the wedding date. If you are under a time constraint, find a jeweler that provides “loaner” rings. This way, you and your mate will have wedding bands for the ceremony and can trade them back to the jeweler once the appropriate rings arrive.

The next thing to do ask a jeweler to educate you about the different metals, stones, finishes, and metal manufacturing (die striking vs. casting). All of these are very important factors to consider when choosing a wedding band. Metals come in different weights, colors, and degrees of durability. For example, titanium is extremely strong and weighs less than platinum. It offers nearly the same aesthetic look, because both are white metals. There are even different color variations of a gold band. The higher the karat, the more golden color a ring will have. Platinum is much more durable than white gold. After extensive wear, white gold tends to corrode or tarnish. You should also make sure you know which metals are hypo-allergenic and which are not. No one wants to purchase a wedding band that will cause them to develop a rash.

When it comes to choosing the style of your wedding bands, there are tons of options. You can choose antique, traditional, modern, diamond, designer wedding bands and more. The best way to gauge the style that best suits you is to purchase a ring that replicates your clothing style.

Couples with divergent personal styles need not to worry. You may not agree on art, clothes, sports, cars or other things, but there is always a happy medium for wedding bands. Contrary to common belief, wedding bands do not have to match perfectly. They can be very different with one or more unifying characteristics. Let’s say that you like gold and your mate is partial to platinum. You may choose to get the same design in the different metals. Or, one of you can choose to get a two-toned ring. The result may be that you choose a gold and platinum ring while your partner sticks with the platinum wedding band. If metal is not a problem for you, but design is, you can choose different designs that have some common ground. One of you may choose an ornate diamond-encrusted band, while the other chooses a band with no design. One may choose an intricately engraved wedding band yet, the partner chooses very little engraving.

In the end, style issues do not make a huge difference. The only thing that matters is that the wedding bands reflect your style and you enjoy them for eternity.
